Classification of paper commonly used in book printing


In applications in the packaging printing industry, book printing often requires a variety of papers.


Letterpress printing paper: referred to as letterpress paper, product packaging forms include roll and offset. The basis weight of embossed paper is 50 grams to 80 grams per square meter. The products are divided into three types: special, No. 1 and No. 2. No. 1 and No. 1 letterpress paper is used for printing advanced books, and No. 2 letterpress paper is mainly used for printing general books, teaching materials and periodicals.


2. Newsprint: Also known as white newspaper, the packaging form can also be divided into roll and offset. Newsprint has a basis weight of about 51g and is mainly used for printing newspapers and periodicals.


3. Offset paper: referred to as offset paper, with a basis weight of 60-180g, and can be divided into double-sided offset paper and single-sided offset paper. Among them, 70-120g double-sided coated paper is the most widely used. Double-sided and single-sided offset paper products have special number, No. 1 and No. 2, special and No. 1 double-sided offset paper is used for printing high-grade color offset products; No. 2 double-sided paper can be used to print general color prints; single-sided offset paper Mainly used for printing and posting posters and New Year pictures.


4. Coated paper: Coated paper is made by coating a layer of coating liquid on the base paper and super calendering. The basis weight is 90-250g, which can be divided into double-sided coated paper and single-sided coated paper. The products are divided into three types: special, No. 1 and No. 2. Special coated paper is used for printing delicate products with a screen wire of more than 150 grams; No. 1 coated paper is used to print products with a screen number of 120-150; No. 2 coated paper can print less than 120 grams. cable products. Coated paper is not resistant to folding, and once a crease appears, it is extremely difficult to restore.


5. Book cover paper: quantitative 80-120g, mainly used for book cover. The cover paper has a variety of colors to meet the needs of printing different covers.


6. Dictionary paper: divided into No. 1 and No. 2, quantitative 25-40g, mainly used for printing dictionaries and manuals. Bible paper is very hygroscopic and will wrinkle when it gets wet.


7. Copy paper: copy is the transliteration of English copy, which means copying. Copier paper is mainly used for printing multiple sheets and is suitable for copying and typing. Because copy paper is translucent, it is mainly used as a cover with portrait pages in book printing.


8. Cardboard: Paper with a basis weight of more than 250 g/m2 is called cardboard or cardboard. There are many types of cardboard, and the cardboard used for book printing is mainly used to make the cover pressing cardboard of hardcover books and the envelope pressing cardboard used for making hardcover books and picture album covers. The cardboard is all lithographic paper, and the thickness of the pressed cardboard for the cover is generally divided into three types: 1 (mm), 1.5 (mm), and 2 (mm). There are six platen thicknesses: 1mm, 1.2mm, 1.4mm, 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm.
